On two upcoming films: HTTYD and White Bird

A very happy December to all of you! To echo what everyone and their great-aunt says at this time of year, I can't believe we're here already! I do hope you're having a lovely start to your December! It's the last month of the year, so let's do our best to make it a good one!

Today I'm sharing two trailers. I've no idea if the actual movies will be good or not, but whoever edited and sound designed the trailers did an excellent job! And both movies seem like something I'd enjoy, especially the last one.

How To Train Your Dragon

The fact that they included that iconic shot where Hiccup holds out his hand to Toothless was just *chef's kiss*! Like, it's literally frame for frame! It looks like most of the teaser's camera angles are frame for frame from the animated version! And not just the way scenes are done, but Hiccup's clothing and the design of the arena and the design of the dragons are all direct from the older film! And a new epic version of Test Drive! We can never have too many epic versions of Test Drive! Then there's the sound design and the visuals of a Scottish-like land, it just all looks really good.

White Bird

I remember watching Wonder years ago. Despite the difficult subject matter, the film managed to tell Auggie's story with such a powerfully positive outlook throughout that, though you could be close to tears at any time, the movie always felt, at least to me, light. Hopeful.
I hope they are able to capture that feeling again in this second film. With the setting being WW2 and the rating PG-13, I'm not sure if they will, but we shall see.
At any rate, the trailer is gorgeous and, if we can trust what we've seen, it looks like we'll be in for a dually heartwarming and heart-wrenching tale. It truly looks so gorgeous and I am very excited to see it.

That's all for today! Thank you so very much for taking the time to read my words.

Darling, go forth and be epic!

  1. Oh, is Dreamworks going the live-action-remake route now? Hmm, interesting. I've heard really good things about their most recent film The Wild Robot, so hopefully they'll continue their streak and this one will be really good too!

Ooh, I just watched the trailer for White Bird, and it looks very good!

Personally speaking, I'm rather interested in the new Wallace and Gromit movie coming out, heh. It's hard to tell from the trailers if it will be good or not...time will tell, I suppose.

    1. I've never heard of The Wild Robot until now! I googled it, it looks interesting!

I know, right? I'm hoping White Bird especially doesn't disappoint.

And I didn't know Wallace and Gromit were getting a new movie! Oh, LOL! I just went and watched the trailer!! That looks hilarious!!! Wallace and Gromit always crack me up! Thank you for sharing and for your comment!

    2. (Whoops, forgot to identify myself the first time! :P)

Wallace and Gromit are such fun, aren't they? I'm so glad that they kept the clay-mation in the new movie - that unique style and texture is just part of the charm!

    3. I 100% agree! It’s the clay-mation and the facial expressions and lack of expression that it gives characters that makes it the most funny to me!

  2. the HTTYD remake looks very promising! you can tell they paid a lot of attention to details that made the animated film so breathtaking!

I struggle to watch very sad movies like Wonder, as I am very very empathetic. (I started crying when the DVD homepage loaded. there's something wrong with me.) so, I don't know if I will venture to watch White Bird, but the story seems very moving and beautiful.

    1. Yeah, it might actually be good, we'll have to see!

LOL. I'm the same! It's crazy because I used to never get emotional in movies when I was younger. But I as I got older, I understood, like, 'no wait, what this character is going through is /actually/ painful,' a lot more than I did in my youth, and then all of a sudden my eyes are stinging! The very first movie I can remember that had this different effect on me was when I watched The Fault in Our Stars for the first time in 2020. Despite hearing for years how bad it was, I still thought I could handle it. RIP me.
All that being said, White Bird just looks too good, so I'm going to chance it and watch it this weekend! Wish me luck!
