ten favorite songs from musicals

This post is a contribution to the blog party happening over at Hamlette's Soliloquy. Thanks for the party, Rachel!

1. "make it work" jingle jangle
If you make it through this song without the overwhelming desire to dance taking over your person, I don't know, I'd probably get that checked out.

2. "the magic inside" mlp: friendship is magic
The power... the emotion...

3. "all you need" sofia the first
A sweet song that has lived rent-free in my brain for the past decade.

4. "nobody's bigger than a giant" backyardigans
That 80s synth!!! This was my second favorite Backyardigans song EVER! My top favorite is in the same episode: "on top of the world".

5. "the plagues" prince of egypt
My siblings and I meme'd this song something fierce.

6. "yours forever" over the moon
Hyunjin's voice: 'the vocals are so, so, so pretty!'

7. "dos oruguitas" encanto
The only way to listen to this song is with your hand over your heart and tears in your eyes.

8. "wild uncharted waters" the little mermaid
The way she sings, 'I was darkness bound, I had almost drowned, 'til you came around and you found me.' and the whole final chorus part... just...heart eyes.
(while this video is family-friendly, judging by the thumbnails, most of the songs covered on this channel don't appear to be)

9. "for a moment" wonka
This song... is soo sweet!! And when they're dancing on the roof with those balloooonnsss!!!! *cries*

10. "you and me" descendants 2
The dancing in the water, the costumes, the message of the song! *wipes eyes with tissues*

That was probably the most fun I've had writing a post in a long time, lol! Definitely head over to Rachel's blog to check out everyone else's posts and to join the party! Thank you again for the party, Rachel, this was so much fun!

  1. The Plagues is awesome...definitely one of my favorite songs from Prince of Egypt.

Oh good heavens, and Dos Oruguitas. All the hearts. <3 (Actually, almost all the songs in Encanto are favorites for me - they're all so good!)

Thanks for the post; it was lovely to see your favorites!

    1. I know, right! The deep meanings, the push and the pull between the characters, the way they use the choir and the strings, it's all just genius!

Totally! Encanto's songs are great to bop to! I did not expect that movie to hit as hard as it did, but by the time Dos Oruguitas starting playing, I was so wound up from all the injustice, I think I started tearing up!

You're welcome! Thanks for reading and commenting!

  2. "You and Me" has some of the most fun choreography I've ever seen. My sisters and I are always talking about how much of a BLAST that must've been to film.

"For a Moment" is SO PRECIOUS. <333

I will cry during "Dos Oruguitas" every time. And I'm not mad about it.

    1. Yeah, it just looks so open and free! They all did a great job!

      *sighs happily* yes, it is...

LOL!! I get emotional during "Dos Oruguitas", but it's more because I'm so wound up and angry at everything that happened, than because I'm just sad, hehe!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

  3. I had completely forgotten that You and Me exists! It's an incredible song! I think my favorite Descendants song is in between that one and Bringing it Down I think that's what the last song of the third movie is called? I love the choreography for both of them though! All of these are so good! I think I agree that Make it Work Again is my favorite though.

    1. I think my fav Descendants songs besides "You and Me" would be "Space Between" and "Queen of Mean"!

Yep, "Make it work" is /such/ a great one to jam to!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!

    1. Thank you! All of these are newer, or more niche musicals so that's probably why. But they're what I grew up on or what I've enjoyed as an adult, so I really wanted to highlight them!
