The Tinker Bell Film Series

Tinker Bell (2008) The very first movie!

I have so many sweet memories of watching these films. And I distinctly remember how we were all abuzz when The Pirate Fairy was coming out because Tom Hiddleston (MCU's Loki!) would be in it, and he would be singing! It's crazy to think that the last movie, The Legend of the NeverBeast, came out twelve years ago now.

The aesthetic of the films is simply delightful. I want to live in Pixie Hollow so bad. In the first movie, Tinker Bell lives in a house made of thatch and moss. (In a later film, it changes to a teapot!) Fairies use acorns as their kettles, mushrooms are tables, and they wear leaves and flower petals as clothes.

And oh my goodness, the fairies' wing designs are so delicate and pretty! The wings actually droop when characters are sad. What a cool detail is that!

I also love that most of the movies take place in different seasons. We get adventures in spring, summer, fall, and winter. The animators outdid themselves with just how gorgeous they made each season.

And going on all of these adventures with the characters was just lovely. On the way, we learned to embrace your talent and not to envy another's. We learned to appreciate the beauty of the gift of a friend. We learned to let curiosity win out, instead of fear, when we encountered things and people we did not understand.

The soundtrack, though, is my favorite part of it all. Throughout the films there is gorgeous, lilting Irish-style music playing, and then there are the actual songs like Gift of a Friend or Fly to Your Heart. When we watched the final film, Tinker Bell and the Legend of the NeverBeast, I was obsessed with Float, Strange Sight, and 1000 Years. I used to go around singing them all the time!

I don't really have a favorite out of the movies, but if I had to choose, I think it would be The Lost Treasure or The Legend of the NeverBeast. The Lost Treasure because I really love adventure, treasure hunt stories where we learn about friendship along the way. And The Legend of the NeverBeast because, what a way to end a film series! It was so heartbreaking, but I actually really loved that.

Endings are my favorite part of a story because that's when we get resolutions, closure, and healing for all that has transpired for the characters. And to get such a bittersweet send-off as that, with 1000 Years soaring from the TV as the credits rolled... It was just an incredible, almost indescribable, feeling.

I was going to miss the world, and the characters, and our adventures. I was going to miss it all so much. But it was time now to set sail for newer things. For new adventures.

But, I think, for many more years to come, I will remember with fondness the ones I had with the fairies of Pixie Hollow.

  1. These films are new to me, but you write about them with such beautiful imagery and enchantment that I feel I must drop everything to see them. Thank you in advance for introducing me to these films.

    2. Also, I tried to say this on your Alice in Wonderland post, but I'm been having difficulty commenting on Wordpress blogs lately. But, anyway, I was just adding my silly two cents which is that the only Alice adaptation that didn't have me scared out of wits as a kid was Disney's animated one haha! All the other live action versions had me straight up terrified! XD

  2. These movies are so cute! I love the one where Tink and her friends all got body swapped and Vidia ends up in Tink's body and she was not happy about the shoes. That one was hysterical : )

    1. Yes, that /was/ a fun adventure! That's the one I was talking about that Tom Hiddleston was in! Also they swapped powers and clothes, not bodies ;)
