I hunger after better times.
Golden days in golden years
when I was young
drunk on youth
and everything felt possible.
But,
Jesus,
I want
to prize the present too.

Nostalgia has been popular for quite a few years now. And while I actually do believe there are good reasons for why we so ardently miss the years prior to the last handful, I still want to love these current days we've been given. And when that gets difficult, I at least don't want to hate them.
I mean, each precious day... oh it is such a gift. And me desiring to enjoy the days doesn't negate the suffering that happens in them, whether it's my suffering or that of another soul.
Here, in the present, in the gift of each new day, there really is so much beauty, and so much mercy.
So, yes, let us look to the past, draw inspiration from what it has to teach, but then let us take all we've learned and be a light here and now.
As we continue to grow up in the 2020s, may we never be so lost in nostalgia that we become ineffective to bringing light to this decade.
Despite its broken, ugly visage, may we prize the present too.
Thank you for reading.
Darling, go forth and be epic!
