in pursuit of a slower path

Lately I’ve been feeling the pull to slow down the speed of my life.

I mentioned on here before how there’s a vibrancy and a liveliness that comes with summertime, but I think I’ve discovered that, at least in this particular chapter of my life, I really can’t keep up with all that. Right now, I’m more of a winter/autumn person, comfortable in the quiet and the still, and not so much in the rushing and the busy.

I don’t know yet what slowing down will look like in my life. Because, more than maybe stepping back from a few things or implementing more breaks into my schedule, I think I'm more in need of a mindset shift.

It's the mindset of rushing through life, I think, that I want to work on.

Do you know that thing people say about their favorite artists? That they were able, in such a special way, to put into words or music or some form of art, a feeling you always had? Well, Stray Kids is like that for me. Except since I’m also an artist, I say it my way, through short musings, poetry, and books, and they say it their way, through music and song lyrics.

Just as I’ve been mulling over these thoughts and feelings on rushing and slowing down, Felix released a song and music video that almost perfectly encapsulated all that’s been going through my head the past two months.

My favorite part is in the chorus, where he sings,
“can we slow it down a little
the sky is moving quicker these days
I’m tryna hold onto something, something
the best times have only started
and it’s too soon to say we’ve parted
can we all just hold onto something, something, yeah
.”

The whole song I relate to, but this is my favorite bit.

I bolded the second line because that's the one where when I heard it I was like, wow. That is such a beautiful way to convey how I've been feeling.

“The sky is moving quicker these days.”

Because, as much as I want to slow down, something about these days we're living in, they're just going by so fast. And there’s so much overwhelm and you don’t want to fall behind and through it all you’re just trying to stay close to God and do the things you know to be good.

But then I just love that final bit there, in the chorus.
Because isn't it a beautiful thought that the best times have just started?

Of course, I don’t know what the future holds, so I can’t say for sure that that’s true, but I love the idea of it, and it is certainly something I'm working and praying toward.

Do you know what's cool? Felix is singing in this song. Properly singing. Most often, Felix uses his deep voice on projects, but every now and then, over the past several years, he's sung more in a middle range, and I'm often amazed by how good he sounds when he does.

Two years ago, the second post I shared to this blog was partially inspired from an old live Felix had done back in 2020 I think it was, where he was singing covers in a more middle range and blushing and squirming pretty much the whole time XD. I talked about how, once he just did it, even if he wasn't super confident, he sounded good! I pointed out how important it was to begin, to try, even when you're not certain.

Because there's so much good that can happen when you step into and begin living out this vast, crazy, heartbreaking, beautiful thing that we call life.

So we started there, with him unsure but singing anyway, and six years later, (I don’t know his mindset now but since he's singing more I assume he's grown more confident xd), we have him releasing this beautiful song. A song I could really relate to at this moment. And one I've been spamming for the past several days xD.

Look at what can happen when you push pass the fear and begin.

So yes, in the end, I know it's important to slow down. To not rush and to pace yourself. To take breaks. To trust God with the results
always
always
always.

But I know it's also important to go.

Go slow, if you must. In fact, that's probably the best path to take.

But go.

Because there is so much good that can happen when we do.
